The Alabama Archives is the first funded archives established by a legislature in the United States. The Archives contains many important papers, paintings, sculptures and other artifacts in its reference room and museum spaces. For this reason visitors like to come often to enjoy everything in this beautiful building. The Archives museum galleries are open Monday through Friday and are free to the public.

Originally built in 1907 for General Ligon by the architect Weatherly Carter, the current executive residence is in the Neo-Classical Revival style with Corinthian columns at the front. It features a spacious interior with a double staircase leading from the foyer to apartments above. A formal garden surrounded by a high ornamental wall originally covered the entire back lawn of the property which extends through the block to South Court Street. A pool in the shape of the state of Alabama was built in the mid-1970s, along with a stone grotto with waterfall. Hours are from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Monday-Friday.

Alabama Shakespeare Festival

The Alabama Shakespeare Festival is the sixth largest Shakespeare festival in the world and attracts more than 300,000 annual visitors from all 50 states and over 60 countries. The 2009-2010 season will include: Ferdinand the Bull, A Christmas Story, Harriet’s Return, Nobody , The Fall of the House, Lettice and Lovage, Hamlet, All’s Well The Ends Well, and Cowgirls.

One of the few state capitols to be designated a National Historic Landmark, Alabama's Capitol was built in 1850-1851 on a site known as "Goat Hill" for its former usage as pasturage. A bronze star marks the spot where Jefferson Davis stood to take the oath of office as president of the Confederate States of America. Free admission.

Capri Theatre

The Capri Theatre is Montgomery's only independent cinema. It was built in 1941 as The Clover and was Montgomery's first neighborhood theatre. It was remodeled and renamed The Capri in December 1962.

Civil Rights Memorial

The Civil Rights Memorial honors the achievements and memory of those who lost their lives during the Civil Rights Movement. The Memorial is located on an open plaza accessible to visitors 24 hours a day, every day of the week. There is no admission fee. The plaza is a contemplative area — a place to remember the Movement, to honor those killed during the struggle, to appreciate how far the country has come in its quest for equality and consider how far it has to go.

Davis Theatre for the Performing Arts

The Davis Theatre is a fully-equipped, professional rental theatre. Built in 1929, this meticulously restored "movie palace" is the home of the Montgomery Symphony Orchestra, the Alabama Dance Theatre, the Montgomery Ballet and other civic and cultural activities. Also features national touring productions of Broadway musicals and other entertainment.

Dexter Avenue King Memorial Baptist Church is a National Historic Landmark. This church was the backbone of the 1955-1956 Montgomery bus boycott--the first locally-initiated mass protest against racial discrimination and a "model" for other grass-roots demonstrations. It is located at 454 Dexter Avenue in Montgomery, Alabama. Individual tours of the church are available Tuesday-Friday at 10:00am to 4:00 pm and Saturday from 10:00am to 2:00pm. Call regarding group tours. There is a fee for a tour.

Dexter Parsonage Museum

The Dexter Parsonage Museum was home to twelve pastors of Dexter Avenue King Memorial Baptist Church from 1920 – 1992, including the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and his family during the civil rights movement. Individual tours of the church are available Tuesday-Friday at 10:00am to 4:00 pm and Saturday from 10:00am to 2:00pm. Celebrating 20 years of dinner theater productions, the productions are family friendly in an alcohol and smoke free environment. Reservations are required and cost for dinner and theater is $22 for adults, $15 for children. The 2009-2010 season includes: The Nerd, School House Rock Live!, Wait Until Dark, Man Day – The Pseudo Musical, Charley’s Aunt, and Camelot.

F. Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald Museum

The Fitzgerald Museum is a non-profit organization dedicated to celebrating the life and works of F. Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald. The Fitzgerald House was the residence of F. Scott, Zelda and their daughter, Scottie, from 1931 to 1932. The Fitzgerald House was saved from demolition in 1986, making it the only remaining residence of the famous couple. Free admission.

Hank Williams Museum

The most complete collection of memorabilia dedicated to one of the world's most respected and remembered country music writers and performers, Hank Williams, Sr. The museum spotlights Hanks' 1952 Cadillac in which he made his final journey. The cemetery in which he and his wife, Audrey, are buried is minutes away at Oakwood Cemetery. Museum admission is $8 ages 12 and up and $3 ages 3 -11.

The Montgomery Ballet Company, now in its 51st year, has been designated a Major Arts Institution by the Alabama State Council on the Arts. Named “the Official Performing Dance Company and School of the City of Montgomery” by Mayor Bobby Bright in 2007, and declared an “Alabama Treasure” in the same year by Alabama State Treasurer, Kay Ivey, The Montgomery Ballet Company is the only professional ballet company in the City of Montgomery, and one of only two in the State of Alabama.

Montgomery Chorale

The Montgomery Chorale serves the greater Montgomery area with innovative performances of great choral masterpieces. The Chorale is the city's oldest performing arts organization and is Montgomery's official performing choral group. Montgomery Symphony Orchestra

The Montgomery Symphony Orchestra (MSO) began in 1976 as a project of the city's Parks and Recreation Department, with thirty volunteer musicians and a part-time director. A board of directors now governs the orchestra, which is funded by concert sponsors and the Montgomery Symphony League. In 1989 the orchestra began performing regularly in the renovated Davis Theater in downtown Montgomery. The MSO also sponsors the Montgomery Youth Orchestra.

The purpose of the Rosa Parks Museum is to uphold and interpret for the public benefit, education and enjoyment, materials related to the events and accomplishments of individuals associated with Montgomery Bus Boycott. The Museum includes a permanent exhibit, a time machine, temporary exhibit space, archives, classrooms, an auditorium and conference room. The Museum is opened Monday through Friday, from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m., and on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Way Off Broadway - Prattville Cultural Arts Center

This Prattville community theatre produces four broadway productions thanks to many local volunteers and artists. Tickets can be purchased for $8 at People's Bank & Trust and at the Prattville Cultural Arts Center.

Wetumpka Depot Players

Wetumpka's Community Theater group since 1980, this successful group grew into its present location in 1999. They perform 5-6 productions each year and also have a Junior Wetumpka Depot Players group for children.
